MaraNatha Nut Butter giveaway!

Disclaimer:  MaraNatha provided me with samples of their "no stir" almond butter and a coupon for a free MaraNatha product.

Need some ideas on how to use nut butters?  Head on over to A Life Less Sweet for some delicious recipes that use almond and peanut butter!

Who doesn't love nut butters?  About this time last year, I switched from my beloved Jif to natural peanut butter.  Why?  I didn't like all of the extra stuff in the non-natural peanut butters.  Regular Creamy Jif, for example, adds sugar, molasses, fully hydrogenated oils, mono and diglycerides, and salt to their roasted peanuts.

So, I switched to the natural stuff.  I had memories of natural peanut butter being kind of nasty tasting.  Know what?  I found that I actually like the flavor of natural peanut butter better!  It all depends on the peanut used (so I hear), and the natural peanut butters that I've bought since the switch have had a great fresh roasted peanut butter flavor.  MaraNatha is one of the brands that I've bought and enjoyed since making the leap.

Different kinds of nut butters    Personally, I like my peanut butter plain jane - just roasted peanuts and nothing else.  The only problem with plain jane natural peanut butter is that it separates.  When you first open a jar of plain jane natural peanut butter, you have to spend some time pain painstakingly stirring and stirring and stirring to mix the oil back in with the nut butter.  But once you've done that chore, you can stick your peanut butter in the fridge and not have to worry with mixing again - at least that's been my experience.  The oils solidify in the cold of the fridge, which inhibits separation.

If you're not into stirring, you can buy "no stir" nut butters.  The "no stir" nut butters add in an oil - typically palm oil - to keep the nut butter from separating.  Sometimes sugar and/or salt will also be added to the "no stir" butters.

MaraNatha Nut Butters    Look where ever your grocery store stocks its natural or organic nut butters, and you'll likely find MaraNatha Nut butters.  MaraNatha has an extensive collection of natural peanut, almond, cashew, and macadamia nut butters as well as sesame tahini (fantastic in hummus).  You'll find plain jane as well as "no stir" varieties of these nut butters, plus some surprises (dark chocolate peanut or almond spread, anyone?).  I've used their plain-jane peanut and almond butters as well as their tahini and enjoyed them all.

MaraNatha Butters is giving away 4 coupons worth $5 that can be applied to any MaraNatha product!  That's right, 4 lucky readers will be receiving a coupon in the mail for a free MaraNatha product (up to $5 in value)!  Submit more than one entry, and you could win more than one coupon (random number generator willing)!

Win it!

Yum! I usually just get the Kirkland Organic Peanut Butter, but I'd love to try a no-stir variety - stirring it up is really kind of a pain (and so messy!)

I love natural PB on just about anything, but I tried PB on sweet potato recently (idea from Foods of April blog), which was really quite good.

I like to spread nut butters on celery and apples. I'm also a fan of just eating it from a spoon with a small glass of milk. It's the perfect one-minute recharge. Also - I love this brand. Please count me in

I like to dip Annie'e Homegrown Bunny Grahams into my peanut butter.

I also use the peanut butter for, no surprise, Senegalese Peanut Stew.

My favorite way to eat nut butter is off the spoon. I absolutely love them! They're also really good blended with a couple raw eggs, stevia, and coconut cream. Hellloo!
